In Exodus 10, we find Egypt being afflicted by Plagues sent from God in retaliation for Pharaoh's refusal to let the Israelites go. Seven plagues have come before, and the people of Egypt are weary and afraid. Moses warns the hard-hearted ruler that should he refuse to free the slaves, God will send a plague of locusts so great in number that, "They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields." (Verse 5) I sought to hone in on the horror wrought by this multitude of orthopterans, channeling the stylings of 1950s sci-fi/horror films, while using red to signify the fear and death which ran rampant amongst the people of Egypt at this time.
