In Exodus 10, we find Egypt being afflicted by Plagues sent from God in retaliation for Pharaoh's refusal to let the Israelites go. Seven plagues have come before, and the people of Egypt are weary and afraid. Moses warns the hard-hearted ruler that should he refuse to free the slaves, God will send a plague of locusts so great in number that, "They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields." (Verse 5) Herein is a depiction of the preliminary swarms of locusts entering the land to do the work for which they were bidden.
